Our window sheets bring a whole new look to your creations. Use them on scrapbook pages, embellish them with Rub-Ons that you use as overlays, or layer them on card stock. Create shapes with the Big Shot die-cut machine, sponge the edges with Craft ink to color, or make see-through boxes. There are countless options! They come in two different thicknesses, as well as a printed option. Window sheets provide a lot of options, and Shannon West is only too happy to share those options with you in this video.

Video for Movers & Shapers Curly Label Bigz XL die

Posted by craftyperson on July 12, 2009

I’ve been receiving some questions about the new accessories with the Big Shot Mover and Shaker die. This video is older but the content is great at showing you how the Mover and Shaker dies work.
Enjoy!

Here are the latest editions to the Movers & Shakers link.  These match our punches as well so they serve double-duty.  I love when that happens.

It’s easy to create a cute window card in a flash–just use Stampin’ Up!’s exclusive Punch Windows dies with the Curly Label die to quickly create a scored, standard 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card with a window. Place the magnetic Punch Windows die on the metal area of the Curly Label die base and cut–that’s all there is to it. You can place a stamped image on the inside of the card so it peeks through the window.

Chalkboard technique

Posted by craftyperson on May 23, 2009

What about this sample.  Yummy x2. I used the Chalkboard technique.
For this technique. Use Craft Whisper White ink to wheel across the 2” x 5 ½” Night of Navy card stock. While ink is wet dab Chocolate Chip, More Mustard and Mellow Moss pastels in sections using Sponge Daubers. Use a Stamping Sponge to wipe off excess pastel powder.

Designing Scrapbook Pages

Posted by craftyperson on May 17, 2009

Designing a Scrapbook Page
Q:
I’m pretty new to scrapbooking, how do I create a great scrapbook page?

A: There are many types of albums — ranging from formal albums to archive old family photos to trendy mini albums.  While there are no set rules, most scrapbook pages incorporate titles, photographs, accents, and journaling. Generally each album, or layout within a larger album, tells the story of a special memory, occasion, or event.  Read on for more information about incorporating titles, photographs, accents, and journaling into your scrapbooks.

Titles

Adding titles to your scrapbook or layout sets the stage for the story you are going to tell.  Titles can be stamped, handwritten, or created with die cuts.  Many scrapbookers prefer stamped titles because they stand out from the other writing on the page and are versatile enough to customize the colors and style to that of the layout. Alphabet stamp sets are available in many styles and sizes and Stampin’ Up! also offers great alphabet dies (Serif Essentials Bigz Alphabet Die Set (#113464) & Billboard Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die (#114510) to use with the Big Shot!

Photographs

Most scrapbooks are created using copies of photos, not the only existing original. That way there is less stress when cutting or cropping photos and you can change the color of the photos to black and white. The size and number of photos on a page can vary.  A single 8″ x 10″ photo on a page or many 2″ x 2″ cropped photos, it all depends on the style and theme of the layout and as well as the photos available.

Journaling

One of the most important, and often overlooked, parts of a scrapbook is the journaling that helps tell the story.  Journaling can be handwritten or typed and printed.  Many scrapbookers encourage handwritten journaling as it adds a more personal touch.  Wouldn’t you enjoy having a note or message written by a grandmother or great-grandmother in her own writing?  “What to journal?” is often the big question.  The basics of Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How are a good place to start. You can journal about a feeling, a memory, a thought, a story, or even a single phrase.  Quotations and poems that fit the story can also be included.  A scrapbook about a trip to Washington D.C. could include the beginning of the Constitution or the Pledge of Allegiance, while a baby scrapbook could include first words, a description of a typical day, or some funny things the child did or said. There are many possibilities.  At the very least, be sure you are including names and dates. You and the people you share your scrapbooks with, now and in the future, will appreciate it!

Accents

Like titles accents can be stamped, die cut, or even drawn.  Many scrapbookers like stamped accents that coordinate with the colors of the page or photographs. Ribbons and punched card stock are always a great choice. Don’t leave out our Accents & Elements line: Flower Fusion (#110720) and Canvas Cuts (#113979) with coordinating rub-ons.

Another Idea for Easter Basket

Posted by craftyperson on March 5, 2009

I used a 4-1/2 x 4-1/2″ piece of paper and then scored every 1-1/2″ to create 9 squares.    The products used are since retired – I’m using up some of my older products – but still a good tutorial I think!

Get Organized, Get Stamping

Organization Stamps

Q & A

    Organizing Stamps

Q: I adore and love every one of my stamps that I have. Unfortunately, I forget what I have. Do you have any suggestions for organizing your rubber stamps?

A: Stampin’ Up! makes organizing your stamps easy because our stamp sets are sold in sets that come in a clear acrylic box with labels. The strategy I’m highlighting below is similar to a library system. You have a card file or binder of all your stamps with the name of the stamp set collection. You have a specific location to store your stamp sets for easy retrieval. This system works in any craft or storage space and will grow with your collection.

Store your Stamps in Labeled Boxes

Whether you have 5 stamp sets or 500, this strategy is a good place to start. When you purchase from Stampin’ Up! you will receive your stamps in a clear acrylic box with labels. Make sure to label the box in the same location every time so you always know where to look for the label. A good spot is on the end near the opening flap as a guideline (see photo above). You will be searching for a stamp by the name of the stamp set so make sure the label is easy for you to read.

With this system you can store your stamp sets out of sight whether it is in a closet, on a shelf in your craft room or in baskets. How you organize your boxes is based on how many you have and where you store them. For instance, you could store the stamp set boxes in alphabetical order if all your sets fit in one spot. However, if you have limited space you could store your stamp set boxes in containers by theme or category. This way you can store your holiday stamp sets in a different area until they are needed.

Create Categories

The categories are used to easily retrieve the stamps you are looking for. These categories can be used as tabs in a binder or storage location. Here are a few examples:

By Theme: Holidays, Greetings, All Natural, Occasions, Elements, Kids

By Use: Cards, Scrapbooks, All Purpose, Weddings, Birthdays

By Name: A-F, G-L, M-Q, R-Z

Location: Red basket, Basement, Single Stamps

Make a Binder

Use the Stamp Collection Template Sheet found in this month’s newsletter to create a binder that will organize all the stamp sets you have in one place. The general idea is to create a 3-ring binder that you can easily add or subtract sheets of stamp collections. Stamp a set or grouping of stamps on the printed blank stamp template sheet. Add name of stamp set and category and place the sheet in the binder. Why not create a stamp template sheet just for birthday greetings and list the stamp set name below the images? You could also use the template sheet to include sample projects, coloring samples, stamp usage notes and a way to track if you have lent the stamp set out to someone.

Maintain Order

Maintaining the system is important. Make sure when you purchase a new stamp set you create a new template sheet, categorize the stamp set and then store it in the designated location for easy retrieval. I recommend doing this at the same time you assemble and clean your stamps.

Our wood stamps are a wise investment as they can be used over and over again for years. I hope you will give it a try as I have found being organized will help you save money and time. As your personal creativity coach, I’ll be happy to work with you to find a strategy that meets your particular needs.

Valentine’s Gift

Posted by craftyperson on December 30, 2008

Oh my gosh…this project is so easy to make.  Add chocolate kisses and what a fab gift for your valentine.

Valentine Gift

Valentine Gift

Jar Gift:

Step 1

For the jar project gather the card stock, DSP and other items listed below and also shown on the right.   Instructions are for a mason jar as that is the most common jar to use.  However, above I used a smaller jar.

Jar Gift:

Step 1

For the jar project gather the card stock, DSP and other

items listed below and also shown on the right.

Rose Red card stock

1 – 3” x 3” – Jar Layer

1 – 2” x 3” – Jar, scrap for punching

1 – 2” x 2” – Jar, scrap for punching

Regal Rose card stock

1 – 2” x 2” – Jar, scrap for punching

1 – 2” x 3” – Jar, scrap for punching

Chocolate Chip card stock

1 – 2 ½” x 2 ½” – Jar, scrap for punching

Confetti White card stock

1 – 2” x 2” – Jar, scrap for punching

1 – 3” x 5” – Recipe Card (or 1/3 sheet for printed card)

DSP

1 – 3” x 12” – Jar, Holiday Happenings Designer Series paper

Other

1 –20” – Chocolate Chip 1” Chocolate Chip Double-Stitched Grosgrain ribbon

1 – Jar – 1 quart size, about 6 ½” tall x 3 ½” wide

Step 2

Different jars are different sizes; your wrap may need to be

adjusted to fit. This project uses a quart mason jar that is

about 6 ½” tall and 3 ½” wide.

Add Sticky Strip to both 3” ends of the 3” x 12” Holiday Happenings DSP.

Remove backing from Sticky Strip. Wrap DSP around the jar

starting with one end at the back of the jar and wrapping the

other end around until it meets or overlaps the first end.

Tie the 20” piece of Chocolate Chip ribbon around

the jar.

Step 3

Use the Coluzzle Cutting system to cut a 2 3/8” circle from

the 3” x 3” Rose Red card stock. This will use the 4th circle

guide from the center.

Trim tabs to finish cutting circle.

Use the 1 ¾” Circle Punch to punch a 2 ½” x 2 ½” scrap of

Chocolate Chip card stock.

Use the 1 ¼” Circle Punch to punch a 2” x 2” scrap of Regal

Rose card stock.

Stamp the “dessert” or other category image on scrap 2” x 2”

Confetti White card stock using Regal Rose ink.

Color in using a Blender pen and Regal Rose ink.

Use 1” Circle Punch to punch out image.

Sponge edge of 1” Confetti White circle using Chocolate Chip ink

and a Stamping Sponge.

Step 4

Use SNAIL to layer the 1” Confetti White circle, 1 ¼” Regal Rose

circle and the 1 ¾” Chocolate Chip circle.

Stamp the “from the kitchen of:” image on a 2” x 3” scrap of

Regal Rose card stock using Basic Black ink.

Use the Round Tab Punch to punch out the image.

Fold tab in half and use SNAIL to adhere it to the edge of the

2 3/8” Rose Red circle.

Use SNAIL to adhere layered circles onto 2 3/8” Rose Red

circle.

Add two pieces of Sticky Strip about 1 ½” each to the back of

the Rose Red circle.

Remove Sticky Strip backing and adhere circle onto jar lid.

Step 5

Stamp “yum scale” image in Basic Black ink on a 2” x 3”

Rose Red card stock.

Punch out image with Rounded Tab Punch.

Fold tab in half and gently bend tab sideways to round it.

Use SNAIL to adhere tab to the top edge of the DSP wrapper

on the front of the jar.

Use Blender Pen and Rose Red ink to fill in stars on the

“yum scale” or leave it blank for the recipient to fill in.

This versatile and useful jar is ready to give to your Valentine.

Slip a recipe card under the ribbon on the back side of the

jar and you have a thoughtful and delicious gift to give…if

you can resist making it for yourself!

Or fill the jar with homemade goodies like candy, roasted

nuts or cocoa mix. Or think outside the jar and fill it with

small gifts like toys, stamps, jewelry or a gift card to a

gourmet cooking store or a dinner out!

Our Spiral Punch

Posted by craftyperson on September 24, 2008

Perfectly Spaced Punches Every Time!

Images © 1990-2008 Stampin Up!®

Images © 1990-2008 Stampin' Up!®

The Spiral Punch punches perfectly positioned holes every time. Great for decorative borders, ribbon slots or to create a film frame which is a wonderful accent for any scrapbook page. But it is not just for decorations. This punch allows you to cover or add pages/envelopes to any of Stampin’ Up! ’s On Board journals and books.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Three holes are shown on the top of the Spiral punch but the third hole is a guide.

2. As you can see from the bottom view, there are two punches and one L-shaped tip as a guide.

3. Insert paper into punch, so that corner of paper is positioned in L-shaped tip. Squeeze handle on punch to create one set of holes.

4. Re-position punch, so that end of L-shaped tip sits in notch of left hole.

5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all holes have been punched. There you have it.  Perfectly straight and perfectly spaced holes.

Item 108341 found on page 188-189 of the Fall-Winter 2008 Idea Book & Catalog

Tip: To sharpen punches, punch through aluminum foil.  You can smooth punches by punching through waxed paper.
